Customer Reviews

Great buy, works great!
After 2 weeks of fatherhood and realizing that the "hold the bottle under hot tap water" wasn't exactly efficient or fun, I read lots of reviews on these bottle warmers. We're EXTREMELY pleased with the Avent iQ warmer, which does exactly as promised at all times. The pattern of button punches a few folks complained about aren't an issue - just requires the user to pay attention. It fits even large bottles (we use Dr. Brown's wide-mouth) just fine, which was my biggest concern, and heats evenly every time. As with all steam-heaters, you have to be careful when grabbing the warmed bottle out of the warmer - just screw on the nipple and all is well.

Great product, we're very happy with it after 2 months of heavy use.

May have IQ in the name, but it's missing the word "Low"
We purchased this product having thought the features side by side most other warmers were impressive. However what is missing from this warming is:

Ease of use

When using any kind of engineered product, it's the subtle differences which count the most.
This warmer loses in these areas:

#1. The buttons are in a bad location. The side of the warmer makes it difficult to use with a baby in one arm. Yes, you can prop it up against a wall, however "propping up" against a wall shouldn't be any kind of work around a device relies on.

#2. The buttons are not intuitive. You need to hold the buttons down to turn it on. This is not obvious at all as most people who would buy any product are not trained to hold buttons down to see their response.

#3. While the steam warming action is a great feature, the need to change the water after every use is not. Turning an electric appliance on it's side, potentially risking a electrical shock every time is impractical.

#4. Finally, the way you set the warmer gives you no indication on how long you have to listen to your crying baby.

I would strongly recommend anybody considering a warmer to get a Dr. Browns warmer instead. It may not be as pretty looking, but it does not have any of the usability issues which I've outlined above.

Avent iQ Bottle Warmer - Great little gem
My wife and I love the fact that it takes the guessing out of the "is it warm enough, or too much". The key to this is choosing the right option for room temp, fridge, or frozen, since it determine how much heated steam to produce for the chosen amount of milk.

Poorly Designed
We got this warmer as many of our other baby products were Avent and we liked how those worked. Unfortunately, this warmer seems to have been designed by people without kids.

While the buttons are easy to understand they're not easy to use. Just to turn the unit on you need to hold a soft button for three seconds. You then select your bottle size and whether the bottle is cold, frozen or room temperature. Finally you need to engage the warmer holding a different button for another 3 seconds.

None of this is rocket science, but just imagine doing this unnecessarily long sequence when holding a crying baby - the unit is light and has recessed plastic-covered buttons that really require you to be eye level with the unit when turning it on.

So despite the unit theoretically being able to get the bottle warm in just 2 or 3 minutes, at this point your baby is screaming under one arm as you are squatting down to be eye level with the unit on the counter while trying to hold various buttons for 3 seconds.

To top this off it doesn't get the bottle warm using the scale on the warmer- selecting 2oz for a 2oz bottle will just result in a cold bottle. You have to do some mental math to figure out how to re-adjust the scale on the spot.

Finally, if the lid isn't on just right, the unit won't activate. So as your baby is now flipping out the warmer won't work despite the unit appearing to be fine.

Technically, it works. In practical terms running a bottle under hot water would be simpler, cheaper and faster.

Love it except why doesn't it remember your last setting?!
I like this warmer which I've used with wide bottles, both avent and playtex (up to 9 oz bottles). It seems to heat everything perfectly as long as you follow the directions and select the proper settings. I'm able to use it easily with one hand but I can see how it might slide for some people. It's easy to use; however, I cannot understand why you can't re-set the default settings. Or why it doesn't automatically remember your last setting. That feature would make it perfect. It's annoying to always be using the same setting but to have to press the buttons like 10 times to get there.

Product Description:
Avent iQ 24 Steam Sterilizer Many pediatricians recommend sterilizing feeding accessories to elimnate harmful bacteria. Home dishwashers don't reach or sustain temperatures high enough to sterilize reliably. Avent iQ 24 Electronic Steam Sterilizer reaches the recommended maximum sustained temperature of 212 F°, for the fastest, easiest and safest form of home sterilization. The new AVENT iQ 24 Electronic Steam Sterilizer is the first intelligent steam sterilizer and is designed to communicate each phase of the sterilization cycle, so you stay informed. With features such as a digital display, electronic countdown and sound alerts, you can always be assured that contents are safe to use. The fast 6-minute cycle and optional 24-hour mode that keeps contents continuously sterile ensures contents are ready to use, day or night. A pause feature lets you remove some items without interrupting the cycle.
Amazon.com Review:
Baby care requires so much time and vigilant attention. Any appliance that takes the guesswork (and a few precious minutes) out of the endless feeding routine is a blessing to caregivers. The Avent IQ24 Sterilizer is a relatively small, simple appliance that sterilizes up to six (Avent brand) bottles and/or screw rings, nipples, pacifiers, and breast pump components in just six minutes. The contents then stay sterile for six hours, providing the lid is not removed. An optional second mode keeps bottle- and breastfeeding accessories sterile for up to 24 hours by continuously repeating the cycle, so baby can have clean, sterile bottles day and night. And as we know, babies actively require feeding 24/7, so this is no idle bonus!

A Sterilizer with an IQ
The Avent iQ24 Electronic Steam Sterilizer is so named because the makers consider it an "intelligent" product, using "advanced iQ technology." And it really is pretty smart. The machine communicates each phase of the sterilization cycle, so you never have to guess whether the bottles or breast pump accessories are actually sterile yet. A digital display, electronic countdown, and sound alerts give parents the assurance that baby will not be contaminated with the bacteria that lurk in unclean feeding equipment. Another cool feature is the ability to "pause" the cycle (again, read the instructions to do this properly!) in order to remove some items without interrupting the cycle.

Putting the Sterilizer Together
Although the iQ24 Sterilizer is relatively easy to assemble and use, it’s not necessarily intuitive. In other words, you’re probably going to have to read the instruction manual pretty carefully the first time around. After that, it should be a piece of cake. Basically, there is a pot with power cord, a lower basket, a bottle rack, an upper basket (plus a spare upper basket), a lid, measuring cup, and tongs. Two 9-ounce bottles are included, as well, along with nipples, screw rings, and dome caps. The baskets and bottle rack slide onto a central stem, and the bottles and breast pump components are placed in the appropriate baskets or rack. The sterilizer cleverly uses bottle screw rings to separate the baskets and bottle rack, putting the very items to be sterilized to good secondary use! Once the correct amount of water is added and all parts are assembled and loaded (and that’s the hardest part, figuring out which basket and bottle parts go where), simply plug the sterilizer body into an electrical outlet, select mode one or two (for six-hour or 24-hour sterilization cycles), and wait six minutes (for either mode). You’ll also need to study the information pamphlet for a translation of the various beeps and flashing lights on the display, but generally it will be obvious when the sterilization cycle has begun and ended, and what to do next (feed that baby!).

Dishwasher Basket
As a bonus feature, two baskets can be clipped together to hold small items such as nipples, breast pump parts, pacifiers, etc., for washing in the top rack of your dishwasher prior to sterilization. Keep in mind that Avent items may discolor over time if they are washed in the dishwasher with dirty dishes covered with remnants of strong sauces, such as tomato or curry sauce.

Note: Sterilization is not the same as, nor should it replace, washing! All bottles and breast pump supplies should be washed carefully in mild, soapy water, and rinsed, before sterilizing. Also, for optimal effectiveness of the sterilizer, and to reduce limescale build-up, use distilled water for sterilizing. Regardless of whether you use tap or distilled water, you should de-scale the sterilizer every four weeks or so (read manual for instructions).--Emilie Coulter

works great!
If you happen to live in a tiny studio without a full kitchen this is a great thing to have. Sterilizes your bottles in minutes and keeps it sterilized up to 24 hours.

Sterilizes Dr. Brown's & Medela Bottles Too
I was going to purchase this sterilizer from Amazon but I got a 20% for BRU in the mail. With the coupon the cost is the same as Amazon's. I was looking for a sterilizer to use with Dr. Brown's and Medela bottles/parts. I was using the Dr. Brown microwave sterilizer but the idea of cooking plastic always worried me even though the bottles were BPA free. The microwave sterilizer was also breaking down my Medela bottles, making them yellow so I had to replace them. This Avent sterilizer works great so far, it's really easy to use. It has 2 modes; 1 for 6 mins and one for longer cycle 24 hours. So far all bottles/parts look fine.

excellent
I am very happy with this purchase, it's an excellent product, it works very well.

Avent iq24 sterilizer
We loved this item. if you have the money it is great. Problem is that you dont need the item for long so it is pricey for that reason. If I have another child I would get the microwave one. It works great though

good product
just so happens I got a defective one...burned out after the first week...bought another one at bbrus and it's been working great.

Philips Avent iQ24 Steam Sterilizer
This item is a new parents dream. So easy to use, quick and you never have to worry about boiling water again. I recommend this product and give it a 10.

For Chief Cooks & Bottle Washers
This Steam Sterilizer is an excellent product and it works well. You can sterilize just about any bottle in the Philips Avent iQ24. It is very easy to use and it does an extremely good job. You can sterilize up to 6 bottles at a time and this can be run on a 24 hour cycle.

Very easy to use - would highly recommend
I have been using this sterilizer daily for three months now and I am very happy with the product. It is very easy to use, takes Medela and Evenflo bottles, plastic and glass, nipples, pacifiers, etc. I use tap water and run it a couple times per day. Takes not much space on the counter as well.

Very good
This is very good. We had the older version too. This one takes so much less time. Highly recommended.

Broken after 4 months moderate use
It is a fantastic item to sterilize baby's bottles, pacifier, utensil etc., as long as it works. But mine dead after 4 months of daily decent use. {Though it is still in its one year warranty, I lost the packaging box. :( }

Great bottles, no leaks here!
We loved these bottles for our now 3 1/2 year old daughter and love them still. We've never had problems with leaks, even with the older design bottles. We've tried a few brands and these are by far our favorite. They are easy to use and are not a pain to clean. I highly recommend them.

Why the bad reviews?
When I was pregnant I did no research on bottles or formula because I was going to exclusively breastfeed my baby and I was going to be a stay at home mom. However, I had some hormonal issues that made it impossible to do so and it quickly became apparent I had to supplement my baby with formula. I had Medela bottles only, the ones that worked with the Medela pump. So, that's what I was using. My baby would take about one hour to finish his milk on the Medela bottles and often fell asleep before he was done with the correct portion of milk. I figured I should get new bottles and my sister had used the AVENT.

So, I got the AVENT bottles. It worked like a charm. He took his milk in half the time and often I would top him off with breastfeeding with absolutely no problem of nipple confusion. These bottles have never leaked for me, so I am baffled as to why so many reviews call them leaky. I have not tried Dr. Brown's bottles because they look complicated. Some of the AVENT bottles come with an extra attachment for the top of the bottle. I figured out how to use the attachment in like 2 seconds. The advanced don't have that extra part, so they are a bit simpler. Nipples come off easily for cleaning. The material also looks quite durable, although you don't use the nipples for long. They have the 0+ month nipples, the 3+ month nipples, and 6+month nipples. The other thing I like about these bottles is that you can buy the variable flow nipples for the baby is ready for cereal in his milk or if your baby has GERD and needs the cereal early. All you do is turn the bottle to increase or decrease the flow (read the variable flow nipple insert).

As expected
We have been using Avent bottles for a year now.
This one was as expected and works like a charm.

Leak EVERYWHERE - what happened to the old generation Avent?
These bottles are infuriating! I used Avent bottles and products with my first three children and never had a complaint. In fact, I used to recommend them to all of my friends. However, with all the hype about BPA, we decided to get rid of our old Avent plastic bottles and purchase the "new and improved" non-BPA ones. BIG MISTAKE! Something is really wrong with the venting system in these new bottles. They leak constantly all over everything and make a huge mess. Sometimes, I'll get the lid on correctly and it won't leak, but then it's impossible to figure out what I did to get it on right. There seams to be some sort of silicone flap on the underside of the nipple. If this flap comes in perfect contact with the neck of the bottle as you are screwing on the cap, then it won't leak. I still haven't been able to get it to work correctly. Who needs such a headache with twins?

We have since switched to Evenflo Classic glass bottles. They are a fraction of the price, recyclable, super easy to clean, non-BPA, and sturdy. We haven't had any leak issues with these, and that makes for peaceful midnight feedings with the babies.

Avent needs to go back to the drawing board. I still love their formula caddy and bottle warmer, though!

NOT SEALED!!!!
A few months before I bought this, I already bought 3 Avent teethers for my baby girl. When I got them, the package easily detaches and open. I just shrugged it off thinking that maybe it was damaged on its way here (manila). But when I bought 2 sets of this Avent bottles, I was really disappointed because it wasn't even sealed. It just came with its box that has no plastic cover or sealer on it.It is a baby product and just like any other baby products, care must be given and this must be totally sealed to ensure that it is clean and has not been used.

Worst bottles ever
Even a 1 star rating is unwarranted. These bottles are overpriced and the design is defective. Believe the reports of leaks - they're horrible. It doesn't matter how you close them, my wife and I have tried everything - closing them dry, wetting the lip of the bottle, the nipple, closing them tightly, closing them just snug, closing them quickly, closing them slowly. Occasionally they don't leak, but the majority of the time within 10 seconds, our son's shirt is dripping wet, totally saturated with leaking milk, juice or water.

You might think you discover the "trick" to close them, and have a few that don't leak, but then you'll get one that simply pours milk/juice/water all over the place. And really, what bottle should require some contorted, undocumented "trick" to close. It's a stinking bottle, you should screw the lid on and be done.

We replaced all our expensive Avent bottles with Playtex Drop-ins and they've never leaked and we don't have to follow some 35 step process to close them.

DO NOT BUY AVENT BOTTLES UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES unless you intend to use them to bathe your child.

Leaked at first - but now OK
I bought this because it was BPA Free, when it came, it was horrible. It was not only leaking,it was pouring milk from the sides, so i thought "what a piece of junk and waste of money", until I found out there was another accesory that was in the package that I did not use. Now my bottle is leak free and I'm happy with it. Do check the nipples also, if they are broken already, my child always bit them, which is another reason if the milk would leak from the nipple.

Garbage
Shape, feel, and concept all fine, but in practice these bottles just aren't worth the risk. Many people have said they love Avent bottles and have had no problems with them, but we've had nothing but trouble with the ten we own. They leak. Not necessarily every time, but more often than not. It does help to remove the nipple, wet it, and re-insert it into the ring, but this is a cumbersome, annoying operation for bottles that cost this much. And the leaking seems to get worse with age (our baby is a whopping five months old, and we have to use the nipple-wetting trick 1-2 times per feeding).

We have too much invested in these bottles to switch, but if we could send our past selves a message, we'd tell ourselves to choose a different brand. In the case of Avent bottles, you get the opposite of what your pay for.

Buy Dr. Brown's instead
Do not buy these bottles unless your babies can absorb formula through their skin. The lids leaked within just one week. Further, the bottles are not finely graded, so when you are trying to keep track of how much a newborn is eating, it's not very accurate. The leaking was the most annoying thing to deal with on top of everything else. I recommend Dr. Brown's starter set instead.

There should only be one way to screw on the lids--the right way
I received this as gift but I will not buy more avent bottles. There should only be one way to screw on the lids--the right way. Yes, there are tricks to putting them on properly but who wants to mess with that at 3am in the dim lighting? And who wants to have to test whether the bottle is leaking over the sink before feeding to your crying baby? And who wants to teach other care providers the tricks to screwing the lids on properly which may or may not work all of the time? Bottom line is that there are better bottles out there. I like the avent nipples and brand but it doesn't seem too challenging or demanding to request a bottle that doesn't need tricks in order not to leak all over your child's outfit, your couch, your outfit and whatever else might be around.

I didn't receive the powder dispenser with my set. I don't think it was purchased from Amazon though. I bought it separately and really like it because it can be used as a snack dispenser later on. Also, I bought 2 more level 1 nipples since our baby gags on the level 2 medium flow nipples.

So we still use the avent bottles but I use all of my other bottles first. Since I'm breastfeeding and bottle feeding, I was looking for a bottle/nipple that would simulate the breast as much as possible. I just bought playtex ventaires (wide bottles with slow flow nipples) and I love them. They are more affordable and they have similar nipples to the avent bottles.
