The Little Superstar Sing-Along Stage features a large picture mirror, framed by exciting blinking lights at the top and an "audience" of smiling, cartoon babies at the bottom. Musical instruments with happy faces sit below: a guitar, a keyboard, a drum, and a trumpet. Each instrument has moving parts that activate sounds. The toy comes with a "magic" microphone, which is really a rattle. Shake it, and the sound of the rattle will activate songs and other fun sounds. The lights blink as the music plays, making a spectacular show for your little one to enjoy.
Sing Songs or "Compose" You Own
The toy includes two modes, which are easily selected by sliding a button at the top of the toy. The "sing-along" mode plays five different fun songs, which are activated by shaking the magic microphone or pressing any of the buttons on the musical instruments. Younger babies will enjoy listening to the music and watching the lights blink. They'll also love hearing you sing along with the songs. (We were happy to find that the toy comes with lyric cards.) As your child gets older, she can learn to sing along with you, too.
Select the "build-a-song" mode for your child to experiment with sounds herself. When she shakes the "magic microphone," a voice singing a "scat" will start. When your child plays with any of the musical instruments, she will hear that instrument play. It will continue to play a "solo" until she presses the buttons on any of the other instruments. Their sounds will then be added to the instrumental piece. For example, press the drum, and a back beat will be added. In all, the toy has three different, jazzy "add-on" instrumental pieces -- even our adult toy testers enjoyed these catchy, authentic-sounding tunes. The toy also says several fun phrases, as well as the sound of cheering and applause, encouraging children to dance or sing along.
Musical Toy Grows with Your Child
While we love all of the musical features of this toy, we especially like that the Sing-Along Stage is designed to grow with your child, which means that your child will get a lot of use out of it while making new discoveries as they get older. The toy stands at the perfect height for six-month-old babies to play with while sitting. They will enjoy looking at themselves in the large picture window, watching the blinking lights, and experimenting with the cause and effect features of the buttons. Our two-year-old toy tester also enjoyed this toy -- she loved dancing and singing along with the songs.
The toy requires just a little bit of adult assembly, which is where we encountered our only problem: the legs need to be screwed on to the toy to allow it to stand, but the holes for the included screws were not sized properly. This made it difficult for us to manually tighten the screws satisfactorily. However, the toy was still able to stand sturdily for safe play
. The Sing-Along Stage requires 3 AA batteries, which are included.

Excellent -- but you might want to snip some wires
My son received this as a hand-me-down. He's 14 months now, but this has been one of his favorite toys since he was 5 months old. 'Baby Crack' is what we called it.
There are two downsides, one of which can be remedied (but should be selectable). There is a 'voice-key' (small microphone) that activates the toy - it's supposed to activate the toy when a kid rattles the 'rattle microphone'. In practice this means that any loud sound (such as the smashing of another toy) will activate the stage. My son can be done with toy, make a loud sound a few minutes later, and the toy reactivates. Very annoying, especially when you and the kid are engrossed in something else or when the kid has finally quieted down for book-time. A selectable threshold for activation (low, high, off) would solve that problem. I finally got tired of it, opened the case, and cut the wires leading to the microphone. That solves the problem.
The second annoying thing is that if the toy hasn't been touched in a while, it will play a tune before shutting down. That causes my kid to run across the room and smash one of the buttons so that it will start playing tunes again. The last thing I need is a toy that interrupts my son when he is doing something else to remind him that it needs to be played with!
Otherwise, the toy is great fun. It not only keeps (kept) him occupied, but I'm sure it increased his coordination. It's funny, because my wife and I occasionally comment 'Do you remember when he couldn't pull down the lever for the horn?'. I still remember the first time he press one of the piano keys when he was only 4 months old 'Happy is when your mouth is smiling..." and he let out a big grin!
Pointless and a Waste of Space and Money
This toy is kind of unnecessary given that there are so many other musical toys out there that are way better. It only has 5 songs and you can by toys with double or even triple that for less money. Also, the jazz sounds on this are really irritating. The microphone rattle is really all my kids play with on this. It takes up a lot of room also for the little it does. I basically payed quite a bit for a rattling microphone.
Our Favorite Toy
My little girl received this as a Christmas gift when she was six-months old. She loved it then, and loves it even more now. She "sings" along with it, dances to it and loves to look at herself in the mirror. It is by-far her favorite toy.

This toy is fantastic! Our daughter is 10 months old and she loves it! There are five songs and they're a little jazzy with real voices singing. The musical instruments are great too. The height is perfect because she can sit in front of it or pull herself up to stand and play.
the best christmas present
my 9 month old son received this for christmas and he absolutely loves this! he will sit and look at himself in the mirror and laugh at himself. when the "wiggles" song comes on, he will wiggle and bob his head. he is now learning how to grab the microphone at the side and shake it. the lights and the music just keep him so entertained. i asked for this for my son for christmas from his secret santa (his aunt) and she was able to find it luckily at target for probably 40 bucks or so. i have no idea why it is so expensive on amazon. why on earth would you pay twice as much for this?! this product is discontinued now, and they have the new sing along play area thing i guess, but i think this is much better especially for babies who can't stand yet. my son has started to lean over and grab the stage and try to stand but he is not quite there yet, so this is perfect for him and is his favorite christmas present :)
